POSTED ON: 2013-08-22 20:07:04 - POSTED BY: themoviejudge

Some Actors you can instantly tell who they are, just by the sound of their voice and sometimes that's what makes them so unique. From the voice of Mufasa and Darth Vader to the iconic Tony Soprano. Here's a list of some of the most iconic voice actors of all time.

Christopher Walken

Christopher Walken

The Walken is a man who needs to introduction - when he's not running, he's Walken. The googly eyed Christopher Walken was born in Queens, New York - he decided to pursue acting starring in a sketch show 'The Colgate Comedy Hour' from then he has appeared in over 100 feature length movies and widely regarded as one of the best Actors of all time. For me, Walken has everything - hair, confidence and the voice. I don't think there's anyone else out there who's got a more iconic voice than Christopher Walken.

Here's a little Walken fact:

Christopher Walken was actually born as Ronnie Walken. He changed his name to Christopher when a few of his close friends said that it actually suited him better than Ronnie.

Here's a few of my favourite Christopher Walken movies

  1. The Deer Hunter
  2. Catch Me If You Can
  3. Batman Returns

There's also nothing cooler than someone doing a great Christopher Walken impression. Check out this great compilation of Christopher Walken impressions!

James Earl Jones

James Earl Jones

He's one of them actors who you don't really realise it's his voice until someone tells you that it's him. After leaving the Military to pursue acting James Earl Jones honed his craft fairly early on even getting a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the movie The Great White Hope. From then on James Earl Jones has been regarded as one of the greatest American actors in history. James Earl Jones has voiced some of Hollywood's most iconic characters, Earl Jones was the voice of Mufasa in Disney's hit The Lion King and also the voice of Darth Vader in the iconic Star Wars movies.

Here's a little James Earl Jones fact:

He had a stutter as a child, but overcame it to cultivate his distinctive bass voice, which portrayed the voice of Mufasa in The Lion King.

Sean Connery

Sean Connery

Sir Sean Connery, or rather Sir Thomas Sean Connery. An Academy Award winner from Scotland, who's probably got the most impersonated voice of all time. I think everyone has had a crack at the old Connery voice at one time or another. It isn't, however, in my repertoire. Connery was a Milkman and a Lorry driver before he got into the acting profession, enrolling in the Edinburgh College of Art. Connery then scored big landing the role of James Bond, from which Connery launched his career into superstardom. Connery has more recently retired from acting. In his younger days Sean Connery also starred in the Mr Universe competition (where he placed 3rd).

Here's my favourite Connery Joke

What time does Sean Connery play Tennis? At about ten-ish

Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman

I think the first Alan Rickman movie I ever watched was Die Hard, but that was even before I knew that Alan Rickman was Alan Rickman. He totally engulfs himself in the role of maniacal bad guy Hans Gruber. Since then I've pretty much watched every Alan Rickman movie ever made. His acting is world class but that isn't just his only defining feature, it is, his voice. The English born actor has been in an array of fantastic feature films, most notable, the Harry Potter franchise as Antihero Severus Snape. If you're not super familiar with Rickman and would like to watch some more wonderful movies, featuring his iconic voice, check out some of the below.

  1. Dogma
  2. Die Hard
  3. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Brian Blessed

Brian Blessed

The king-sized jolly giant Brian Blessed has a voice that could echo through the whole room and then some. The bearded thespian has been in so many movies of note, it's quite difficult to pick out some of his best, however, for me I really did like him in Flash Gordon as King Vultan. A role fit for a king! Blessed was born in Yorkshire and from a young age prospered in acting because of his iconic voice and charisma, Blessed has been in some of the most iconic thespian based movies of all time. Such as Hamlet and McBeth, roles perfectly suited for the gentle giant.

Did you know. Brian Blessed attempted to climb Mount Everest three times?

Al Pacino

Al Pacino

Pacino is widely regarded as one of the best actors of all time. Al Pacino is mostly known for his dramatic and explosive acting, mostly associated with movies such as The Godfather, Scarface and Heat. Pacino started acting at a young age, after dropping out of high-school he studied with Lee Strasberg who became his mentor and best friend. From then on Al Pacino has managed to have one of the most illustrious careers, working with the very best. Unknown to most, Al Pacino's height is only 5ft 5.5inches, the .5 inch must really matter to the pint sized performer.

Did you know. Al Pacino was often unemployed and homeless early on in his career.

James Gandolfini

James Gandolfini

James Gandolfini was an actor, who, throughout the years, made a huge name for himself in the movie world, his larger than life character and voice was appreciated and respected from everyone who ever saw him act on the big screen. The actor was mostly known for his role in the Soprano's - as Tony Soprano, a crime boss juggling the life of his family and his work. However he has acted in a whole range of movies from True Romance, Killing Them Softly and my favourite of his movies The Last Castle.

Did you know. James Gandolfini Was voted "best-looking" in high school?

Nicolas Cage

Nic Cage

The kooky and crazy Nic Cage. A man who has made some of the weirdest movie choices of all time. For me Nicolas Cage movies arebrilliant - for others, they just think he's just weird. There's no denying that Nicolas Cage can act and when he does, he can put on quite a performance. Multiple times Cage has delivered iconic performances, he has however, been in his share fair of blockbuster blunders. But I guess non of that really matters because when he does deliver ...he DELIVERS. He has won an Academy Award for such a delivery in Leaving Las Vegas, probably one of his best movies. Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman

Freeman didn't get his first major acting role until he was in his 20's, there's a common misconception that he didn't start acting until much later in life - which is untrue. The Silky haired superstar was born in Memphis Tennessee and started acting at a very young age, at age 9 he starred in his school play, then, when he was much older, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of acting. Freeman'sprobably has his Memphis heritage to thank for his iconic voice.

Freeman eventually won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Million Dollar Baby, where he acted alongside Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank. Freeman's most iconic role would be as the infamous Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding in the critically acclaimed The Shawshank Redemption.
