I don't think there could be a man cooler than Snake Plissken. He's bad ass, he can kick-ass and he's also got an eye patch. Sure he looks like some kind of pirate mullet hybrid but you sure wouldn't mess with him. Escape from New York doesn't pull any punches, Its straight up in your face and bad ass to the bone. It's also probably one of Kurt Russells most iconic performances.
The plot centres around Snake Plissken (the aforementioned) he's on a mission, not just any mission - but one to save the US President who's crashed into Manhattan (don't you just hate it when that happens?). Well the only man for the job is Snake, no one else would dare even go into Manhatten. Oh by the way I forgot to mention they converted New York into a prison, so getting the President out of there isn't going to be a picnic.
I'm sure it won't stop old Snake though.
I always enjoy watching Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman, having them two combined into a movie is a recipe for awesomeness is it not? Well, when I first watched The Book of Eli, I wasn't overly fond of it, Its one of those movies for me that grows on you over time. That It did. We have Denzel who's the goodie and Gary Oldman who's the baddie, they kind of want this book...It's called The Bible, I'm sure you've heard of it. Well, there are a lot of Bibles kicking around I hear you say. WRONG. There is only one left, and Denzel has it. He has to deliver It somewhere but Gary Oldman is a kind of Anti-Post Office deterrent who wants The Bible for himself (what a greedy dick).
Zombieland has a star studded cast and is full of magic and wonder...and of course, ZOMBIES. Which is the main reason you give a shit, right? Well, Zombieland delivers in every aspect, not only is it a great Post-Apocalyptic movie but It's also a really well thought out and written story. Did I mention It also has Woody Harrelson in it? That's even more of a reason to watch this god damn movie. It has everything you'd want in a movie...zombies, Woody Harrelson, a quite attractive female lead (Emma Stone, that red headed chick who's popping up everywhere) and also ....ZOMBIES, I already said Zombies didn't I?
Another zombie movie, whoopy-doo. Well Shaun of The Dead is quite different to your usual zombie type movie. For one, It's very funny, for two, It's got Simon Pegg in it, for three...Ok I can't carry on like this, let me just try and explain why It's great. Shaun of The Dead is one of those movies that comes along every once in a while and kicks you in the balls, you didn't expect it, it just happens. It makes you think that maybe you're a bit of a dick for not even noticing it in the first place. Shaun of The Dead is one of those movies. By now I'm sure everyone has heard of it, but at the time it was very low key, kinda. It took those Yanks a while to catch on.
Waterworld is one of those controversial movies, kind of like Marmite, you either loathe and detest It's very existence or you think Its the most bad ass Kevin Costner movie ever. Well, I am the latter of the two I'm afraid. Firstly we have Dennis Hopper, who is magnificent as the malevolent one eyed sea pirate, then we have Costner who's turned up his bad ass meter on overdrive. I think my favourite bit of the movie Is when he's just this total prick to this kid and cuts all her hair off, such a scumbag movie....yet one I thoroughly enjoyed. Go Costner.
This was before Christian Bale was Christian Bale, I mean, he's always been Christian Bale but he wasn't always CHRISTIAN BALE. Y'know after he donned the suit. That's when he became THE MAN. Right now in this movie he's just Christian without the Bale. However, Reign of Fire is a solid movie, which is one of those movies you don't really know ever existed until It's on TV and you're like, holy shit there are Dragons in this movie...wait is that Christian Bale before he was Christian Bale? ...Put your sticks down Christian Bale fans, I'm just teasing. Don't lynch me you yobbo's.
Steel Frontier is in here for pure Comedy relief, Its terrible. It is truly terrible....Yet Its awesome at the same time. How is that even possible? I have no idea. It just is. You know them kind of movies, the indefinable can't be defined then BAM you define it. Mind Blown.
You will hate this movie for everything it stands for. But you will also love it for everything It isn't.
Don't watch this movie, the dog dies. Screw the billions of humans that have been wiped out because of a zombie apocalypse... what about Will Smiths dog? Poor....Willard (I forget It's actual name, lets just stick to Willard for the time being). Well apart from the sad dog death (which in my opinion didn't need to happen they just wanted to pull at my 'I like animals more than humans' heart strings) I Am Legend is a very solid movie, sure it has It's moments of ridiculousness but for the most part It's very good and well worth the watch if you haven't already seen it.
My dad was going to call me Logan. Alas he didn't I got stuck with 'themoviejudge' instead. What a douchebag, oh well, whats done is done I guess. Logan's Run is centered around a man named Logan (wow I hear you say... do tell), well Logan isn't just every man, he's the charming man with the mullet, a mullet that would crush any formidable opponent. Ok back to the plot, It's set in the future and the Government are total cunts (no change there then) they've made it law that no one can survive over 30...Logan's not happy about that.
Mad Max is one of those classic movies that always seem to shine bright whenever you mention best apocalyptic movie, at least for me anyway. I think Mad Max has all the ingredients for a brilliant movie, especially for it's time. If you're after a really gritty kick-ass revenge movie then you can't go far wrong with Mad Max. Mad Max is set in the not so distant future, an Australian policeman sets out to avenge his partner, his son and his wife who were shot and murdered by a motorcycle gang.
The good thing about 28 Days Later is that it reminds you about humanity and the depths of despair it can go to. I think that's one of the great things about 28 Days Later, it's realistic in it's narrative. I think with most zombie movies they sometimes overlook the fact that the worst killer is sometimes ourselves. 28 Days Later is a movie that certainly covers that. Directed by Danny Boyle It's a great depiction of how life could turn out if ever we all started turning into savages because of some freaky monkey virus, you never know, right?
I think when I first saw Children of Men, I knew it was one of those movies that I'd always like and appreciate, I think it's quite a refreshing idea and I think that's why it resonates so well with so many people. Children of Men is set in the near future where women have become infertile, a man has to help transport a miraculously pregnant women to safety. If you haven't seen it be sure to check out the trailer below, that should be enough to change your mind.
Stake Land is my favourite Post Apocalyptic movie of all time. It is just totally bad ass, It's one of those movies that's kind of an art piece, you know the type. Well It's more than just that, It's got a very deep routed level of awesomeness to it, a great cast with some superb acting in it, you should watch this, right now. Lucky for you the article has finished.
