Everyone needs a little pick me up every now and again and what better way to find motivation than to find it in an inspiring movie! Here's a list of some of my favourite tear jerking movies you can't help but root for. Here we go.
Everyone loves an underdog and you can't get much better than Rudy in that department. Rudy is based on a true story, starring Sean Astin. Rudy has always been the little guy. The guy who's always been told he was never good enough or he was too small to ever be a professional football player. Rudy though, he's determined. He isn't about to let someone dictate his life, he does whatever is necessary and sacrifices everything for that one moment where he gets to play for the team of his dreams, Notre Dame. It's a movie that is brilliant from start to finish, you feel like you're taking the journey with Rudy and what a great journey it is.
It seems like this list has manifested into sport related movies, it didn't mean to be the case. How could one object to Coach Carter though. It's probably, in my opinion one of Samuel L. Jacksons best performances. He's phenomenal here. He's the epitome of what it means to have belief and passion in what you do. Coach Carter is about a man who benches his entire Basketball team for breaking their academic contract with him. Throughout the movie he tries to guide his students in making the right decisions, showing them that with perseverance and an unwillingness to give up you can achieve your dreams.
Forrest Gump is a movie that needs no introduction. It's a class above the rest. A friend once told me, 'Forrest Gump has everything you'd ever want in a movie, It literally covers everything'. I tend to agree with him, I think it's one of those movies that covers every moment of a persons life, highs and extreme lows. Above all that though Forrest Gump is a man not afraid to be who he is, and as you watch him throughout his life, you feel as if he's touched yours too, even if only just very briefly. Such an inspirational movie for the whole family.
Perhaps one of the great Bill Murrays finest roles. Groundhog Day, A classic movie you can't help but love, it is funny, kind and sweet and it has a great moral to the story. Phil (Murray), a Weather Man finds himself living the same day over and over again. First he uses this gift as an advantage but soon realises it's not all it's cracked up to be, now he has to figure out why this has happened to him.
Saving Private Ryan follows a group of soldiers who are looking for a man who's brothers have all been killed in action, they try to get him out alive safely which doesn't prove to be the most easiest of tasks, Saving Private Ryan is a movie about brotherhood, inspiration, honour and duty. It's a truly great movie by the master Steven Spielberg. Well deserving of all it's success.
I think Tears of the Sun is one of my favourite inspirational movies. I remember the first time I watched it, I expected it to be quite shallow and uninspiring, however I couldn't have been more wrong, one of Bruce Willis' most defining and great performances, it's a movie that really resonated with me at the time, perhaps for most it wouldn't be as inspiring as it was for me, but maybe you'll like it just as much. It's about a group of Navy Seals in the jungle rescuing a Doctor and 70 refugee's from the Nigerian militia.
One of Daniel Day Lewis' most iconic performances and one which won him his first Oscar. My Left Foot is about a man with Cerebal Palsy, a remarkable man who even without the use of his limbs, only his left foot, learned to write and paint. If you haven't seen it, it's truly an amazing movie that is incredibly sad and inspiring, a movie which you'll remember and never forget.
Manifested from the mind of Wes Anderson, see's a strange, quirky yet brilliant movie about a man named Steve Zissou (played by Bill Murray) who plans to get revenge on a mythical shark that killed his partner, Steve goes on a quest with his wife and crew to find this mythical beast.
Remember the Titans is a movie that's the epitome of inspirational, led by leading actor Denzel Washington you know It's at least going to be a movie with a lot of depth and that it is. Remember the Titans is a movie that deals with a lot of racial politics and stereotypes and is honest about it's portrayal, the performances by all the cast are incredibly moving and uplifting, It's one of those movies that you can't help but love, instantly.
With Sunshine in the name you can only help but hope it's a movie that will make you happy, that it does. Little Miss Sunshine is bizarre and zany yet has all the ingredients for a wonderful movie. Abigail Breslins breakout performance is enchanting and delightful along with the rest of the cast who never fail to deliver in a single scene. A little fact for you, Michael Arndt, the writer of Little Miss Sunshine had to quit his job as Matthew Brodericks assistant in order to write the screenplay for Little Miss Sunshine, so you can tell a lot of love went into the movie (which he won the Oscar).
A movie that never fails to tug at the heart strings. John Q is about a man who's insurance won't help cover his sons heart transplant, John ends up taking matters into his own hands and takes over the hospital's emergeny room, holding people against their will until the doctors agree to perform heart surgery on his son. It's such a truly sad and wonderful movie about a father who's on the brink of despair, a man who's willing to do whatever it takes to save his son and protect his family. John Q is one of those inspirational movies that makes you appreciate what you've got in life.
Yo Adrian! Everyone loves Rocky. No one is more inspiring than Mr Balboa, he's a simple man who has a dream of becoming the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the world. It's a story above love, sacrifice and heart. Rocky was Stallone's first ever screenplay and the best movie he's ever made. It's one of those movies that will be remembered and treasured forever.
